Your payment differs from our estimate

Send the share link of your calculation and the amount on the document you hold: the VA award letter or the payment history on va.gov, your Leave and Earnings Statement, or your retiree account statement from DFAS. The usual causes are a dependent VA has not added yet (a marriage or a birth that was never reported on VA Form 21-686c), a child who turned 18 and was not certified as a student, a rating with a future effective date, BAH rate protection from an earlier year, or a VA waiver that DFAS has not yet adjusted. We tell you which one, and fix the site if the error is ours.

A table changed

VA applies its cost-of-living adjustment every December 1, DFAS and the DTMO publish new pay and BAH tables for January 1, the GI Bill rates turn over on August 1 and the IRS sets TSP limits in November. If you see an official change we have not picked up, send the link to the government page.

Embedding

Veterans service organizations, county service officers, transition offices and spouse groups can place the VA calculator or the BAH lookup on their sites for free: the code is on the embed page.

What we cannot do

We cannot read your claim, file anything for you or contact VA or DFAS on your behalf. An accredited veterans service officer can help with a claim at no cost; VA lists them on va.gov.

Response time

Usually within five working days, corrections first. Every figure is re-read at least every 12 months and on each scheduled change.
