Editorial and corrections policy
A veteran may decide whether to file for an increase, a family may choose between two duty stations, a retiree may elect CRDP or CRSC on the strength of a number read here. A figure copied from last year's table can cost real money. This page says where every number comes from and what happens when one is wrong.

Sources that supply figures
- the Department of Veterans Affairs: compensation, SMC, pension, DIC and Post-9/11 GI Bill rate pages on va.gov;
- the Code of Federal Regulations (38 CFR Part 4) through the eCFR, for the combined ratings table, the bilateral factor and individual unemployability;
- DFAS: basic pay tables, BAS, and the retired pay, CRDP and CRSC pages;
- the Defense Travel Management Office: the BAH ASCII files (rates, housing area names, ZIP code assignments);
- Title 10 and Title 38 of the United States Code, for retired pay multipliers, concurrent receipt, CRSC, SBP and dependents' amounts;
- the IRS and the Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board for TSP limits, OPM for FERS.
Sources that never supply a number
Other calculators, military news sites, forums, law firm pages and claim consultants can tell us that something changed. They never supply a figure: we go to the government document, and when the two disagree the document wins. When the government site cannot be reached from our location (dfas.mil and travel.dod.mil block foreign connections), we read the archived copy of the official page and keep it with the code.
Review cycle
Every figure is re-read at least every 12 months and on each scheduled change (December 1 for VA rates and retired pay COLA, January 1 for pay, BAS and BAH, August 1 for the GI Bill). A change voted but not yet in force is shown with its date and never applied early.
Corrections
- We check the report against the official document.
- We correct the data file or the engine and add a test that reproduces the case.
- The page shows its new reading date.
Independence
No law firm, claim consultant, lender, insurer or moving company pays to appear on the site, and no calculator asks for a name, an email or a phone number. If that ever changed, it would be written next to the link concerned.

Estimate only: the figures on this page apply the tables and formulas published by VA, DFAS, the DTMO, the IRS and OPM to the numbers you enter. Your rating decision, your LES and your retiree account statement are what count.
